WHO ARE WE?
Join us and enjoy your retirement from full-time employment, taking part in our groups and activities. Beckenham U3A is a voluntary, self-help organisation run entirely by our own members, for retired and semi-retired people to share in educational, creative and leisure activities. We meet together in groups for informal learning and activities.
Go to our GROUPS page to see a list of our interest groups. Members share learning and activities on a wide range of topics. There are no qualifications or awards. Through sharing knowledge, skills and experience, we learn from each other. (Some of our groups have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic and are not taking place at present.)
Go to our EVENTS page to see activities open to members and information on our General Meetings, which you can attend as a visitor before deciding whether to join us.
Started in April 2001, Beckenham U3A has over 300 members. We are self-governing, but affiliated to the Third Age Trust, a Charity that looks after the interests of all the local U3As in this country. We are part of a worldwide organisation, with more than 1000 groups in Great Britain with over 400,000 members.
We hold a monthly General Meeting (excluding August and December) at which we have a visiting speaker on varying topics; and we have a social meeting in August and December.
We publish a quarterly newsletter which updates members on our groups and new groups, and gives details of our forthcoming events and excursions, including visits to art galleries, museums, exhibitions, theatres, historic houses and gardens. (These activities are subject to the Coronavirus pandemic situation.)
We hold a Newcomers Meeting usually twice a year to introduce new members to each other, to the Committee and Interest Group Leaders.
