First we read "Climbing The Wall" by Andy Powrie, which was first performed at Southwold Summer Theatre and will be produced at The Assembly House in Norwich in the autumn. It is a hoot about two ladies who are not prepared to sit things out in the retirement home but plan their escape. Think of The Great Escape with zimmer frames!
After reading Ayckbourn’s "If I Were You”, we discussed the problems of a man playing a woman and a woman playing a man, which is very difficult if the characters are to be convincing. At present we are considering the plays of Oscar Wilde as there is a production of An Ideal Husband in Norwich soon.
We have had a trip to the Maddermarket Theatre to see Kindertransport, which we read before our visit and discussed the trauma encountered by these children some, having been resettled in London with a foster family, were subsequently evacuated to another part of the country.
No Drama group would be complete without a nod towards Shakespeare. We have watched some snippets from Shakespeare’s comedies and are looking forward to the performance of The Comedy of Errors in the Cathedral Cloisters.
We meet on a Wednesday afternoon convenient to the group
