Railway Journeys
We meet on the first Tuesday of the month, normally from March until the end of the year. Members are encouraged to give any ideas or suggestions they have for future trips and to research the cost and travel details and if there is anywhere of historic or scenic interest on arrival at our destination. This could be to the coast, a market town or to London or a heritage railway for example. We have visited various places in Essex and Suffolk on different routes, had a local guide on occasions and enjoyed riverside walks.
The group consists of couples and individuals who share a common interest. All new members receive detailed information about how the group operates.
Members need to be reasonably fit and able to negotiate steps, stairs and escalators and to walk distances which can vary depending on the destination. Also to cope with public transport which can sometimes be crowded.
Members are responsible for purchasing their own tickets, either online or at a ticket office. A senior railcard gives a 30% discount on off-peak rail travel. Full details are sent a month before each visit with a reminder one week beforehand. We normally depart from Billericay or sometimes Chelmsford on Greater Anglia or the C2C line from Basildon or Laindon depending on the destination and whichever is the most convenient. A bus pass is useful too on occasions.
