At last!!
Hello again, all our groups and meetings are up and running now the dreadful Covid Rules
have been relaxed. Phew!

As Priory Campus is now used for vaccination’s, and is no longer available to us, we have had
to make some changes.
NML meeting are currently now at Monk Bretton Methodist Church Hall, 2 Well Lane, Monk Bretton

We have also changed the time to 2-4pm, and are now holding the meetings every 2months rather than
every month.

The June 2022 meeting was well attended. 26 delightful new members joined us.

June’s meeting

Our meeting on April 25th was well attended by 24 new members and 1 prospective member who joined
at the meeting. It was as usual, relaxed and friendly and enjoyable

We now also include people who maybe interested in joining and would like more information

The aims of the group are:

  • To give all new members the opportunity to be introduced and get to know each other.
  • To help understand how our u3a works.
  • To be a stepping stone between joining to becoming settled in groups of your choice.

You will be invited to attend

Topics covered will be:

  • A brief history of the U3A
  • How to join groups.
  • BU3A monthly meetings.
  • The Buzz quarterly magazine.
  • Facebook (private closed group).
  • Blue boxes and the importance of signing-in register.

Eveline Mirfin

And of course, any other subject you need information on.

The group will be kept small, around 12to 20 members each session to allow you
to feel comfortable and relaxed.

February’s meeting
As Molly, who has been co ordinating the meetings with me since we began 2+1/2 years ago has, sadly had to retire on health grounds . We now have Chrissie White and Lynn Mallony replacing her

A very busy night for us. 18 attended and 3 prospective members all joined
We were fortunate to have our Chairman Alan Swann come along to give the group an interesting talk.
Chrissie gave a talk on the history of the u3a and Lynn shared information about the exciting National u3a day on June 3rd this year.
The group were very interesting, lively and attentive, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening
The pic is of some of the group listening to the talks

February 2020

January 2020
We had a really good start to the new year!
Plenty of laughs and exchange of ideas. 10 members attended, which was pleasing as the weather was awful.
One perspective new member joined. We now have 1,250 members here in Barnsley, and of course we are all delighted 😁

-----

Our November meeting was quieter than the previous two meetings, 10 members attended.
Apparently there was a “bug” doing its rounds which resulted in 4 members not being well enough to attend,.
However the meeting was lively and enjoyable with plenty of new ideas expressed
This is the last meeting for this year as December approaches and most people are busy with Christmas preparations
We will start the New Year meetings on January 20th. That should be fun!!

November’s meeting

Our October meeting was attended by 26 new members and both the prospective members joined
Another fun filled evening, loads of friendly banter, and information shared. We actually had our 1200th new member in attendance who has agreed to being interviewed, and for the interview being put in our quarterly Buzz magazine!! How good is that.....
And here’s more good news for you, the blue box contributions will no longer apply. This means that the £1 paid on admission to all our groups will not apply to our meetings. Hey hoe things are looking up.....
Regrettably though, I didn’t manage to get a pic of all the members this month, as we were so busy!!
I will most certainly remember to get one (maybe two) at our November meeting
Just for info: We are not having a meeting in December as most people are very busy with Christmas preparations

An amazing turn-out for our September meeting
25 attended and the 4 prospective new members all joined
A brilliant fun evening I think everyone who attended would agree All engrossed .

The meeting on July 15th was really good fun! 10 new members attended plus 2 prospective new members
The beacon administer and Buzz Editor gave short interesting talks on their roles. Molly (who works with me) gave a very informative talk on the history of the u3a. Then we divided into groups and fully discussed all the groups the new members were interested in joining

July 2019

Our June meeting had 6 new members, and one prospective member who joined on the night
Our Vice Chairman and Buzz Editor Derek Bacon gave the group a very inspiring talk about his journey with our u3a and
explained the contents of the Buzz
Also with us tonight was the new development officer Joanie Tollerfield, who gave valuable input to the group on all the new
groups and talked about her ideas for new groups
Altogether it was a very happy and interesting evening

-----

Our May meeting was also well attended, 9 new members came along and both the prospective new members joined
WOW 😮 how our bu3a family is growing! We now have over 1170 members.... That has to be good
This was the first time we were able to give out the much sought after bu3a pens!! We spent a very friendly couple of hours together, and all learned a lot

-----

Our April 2019 meeting was well attended. We had the pleasure of our Chairman, Buzz Editor and Treasurer with us.

Our meeting in October 2018

Our meeting on November 19th was fun!

In fact we were all so engrossed going through the groups that members were interested in that we were totally taken by surprise when we realised that it was 8:15pm! and time to leave....... So regretfully no group photo this time....
We will not be meeting in December as it’s to near Christmas and everyone will undoubtably be busy
So our next meeting will be Monday 21st. January at Priory Campus

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL FROM BOTH MOLLY AND MYSELF. xx
January 21st 2019
Our first meeting of the new year went swimmingly!
18 members joined us (4 were prospective new members). They were a happy 😃 bunch of people who all appeared to get along really well together. It’s always a delight for Molly and I to get to know everyone personally , and of course to introduce ourselves so that on the first attendance at the monthly meeting there’s a good chance they will see us there

February 18th 2019
Emergency lighting for the new members meeting last evening, due to an Electricity Pylon exploding at Shafton
(Wow, that’s a first for me)
A sickening bug is apparently journeying around our area, as 3 people rang in to say they were unwell, another 5 didn’t make it either!
Nevertheless, 7 new members did come, and a very enjoyable evening was spent getting to know each other and sharing information about how our u3a works
-----

Our March meeting was awesome. 18 attended and the 7 prospective new members all joined
