Old Blowers brass ensemble
Introduction.
The Old Blowers group was established in November 2016. The idea of creating this group was to give members the chance to learn all about the rudiments of music from the absolute beginning. Furthermore, members were given the opportunity to learn to play a brass instrument. The ethos behind this was to follow up on Medical evidence which suggested that learning music or taking up a new language would help to stave off the onset of dementia! The group is now 24 strong and are now playing music, an astonishing achievement in such a short space of time, plus entertaining the public at engagements!
We are continuing to fulfil public engagements as the ensemble gets better and better! with a bit of comedy thrown in!
If there are any new members out there who used to play in thier previous lives, then feel free to contact either myself or Roy. ( 01226 889446). I can honestly say you will enjoy the experience!! Just ask Jeff Jones, he started playing bits of percussion and has now progressed onto the tenor horn, he also started from scratch learning the rudiments of music. He is now a fully fledged player!
!Now things are back to normal,We will continue to meet on Thursday mornings at Dodworth Miner's Welfare in the Dodworth Brass band rehearsal room, starting at 10am playing until 12 noon. Don't worry if you have a disability as we now have mobile ramps. Our latest new recruit is Charlie Brammar who takes over from Geoff Pyke who is leaving us to go and live in Ashbourne. Geoff was one of our founding members who learned from Scratch. We wish him well in his new adventure with his new partner.
Our next engagement is on Friday 25th of February at Mapplewells Community Centre 2 till 4pm.
