Chrissie White, Audrey Eyre, Gill Errington, and Helen Dew are all members of the Travel Group. We organise day trips for our group, and also short breaks away which are available to all members of our Barnsley & District U3A. We arrange our trips through the services of Yorkshire Rose Holidays ensuring that all aspects of our travel and accomodation are professionally planned.
We took over at the beginning of 2016 and have organised day trips to Lincoln and Liverpool, and also a two night stay at Longleat to see the Chinese Lanterns in the Festival of Lights.
Trips in 2018
We organised an overnight trip to Scarborough, including a trip on the Pickering to Whitby railway.
A boat trip and carvery on the River Trent was so successful that we ran it again in 2019
We organised a trip to London to include Classical Spectacular which was very enjoyable
Castle Howard at Christmas was our last enjoyable trip of the year.
Trips in 2019
All our trips pick up at BARNSLEY Bus Station and in PENISTONE
Stratford, Warwick Castle and National Arboretum This was an excellent trip and the weather was beautiful. National Arboretum was so peaceful and enjoyed by everyone. At Stratford many people took a boat trip on the river and enjoyed lunch and a look around the town. The following day, Warwick Castle did not disappoint - a good time was had by all.
Beamish - This was a day trip which was most interesting. The weather was kind to us and had many of us reminiscing about our childhood! A great day out.
Big Band overnight trip 8th December, £110 per person, single supplement payable. Staying at the Eastwood Hall Hotel. A visit to Nottingham winter wonderland and then on to the hotel. Evening entertainment - Mike James Orchestra and singers. We hope to travel to Chatsworth House the following day to see the house dressed for Christmas. This trip is now fully booked.
Travel Group 2020 Due to coronavirus we have had to cancel and rearrange trips. I will update this page as we get details.
Sunday 8th March Day trip to SALFORD QUAYS approximate cost £12.50. There was opportunity to see the Lowry Museum and/ or Imperial War Museum. Some members arranged a tour around the media centre. If you are going you need to book this tour online before you go.
LONDON/ TUTANKHAMEN - Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh. A celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen. This is the last time these artefacts will be coming to London. Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April staying at Guoman Tower Hotel, 2 days DBB. Cost from £159. Seats on this trip are limited, please book early to avoid disappointment. Pick up in Penistone and Barnsley Bus Station. Sadly this trip was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
Sunday 17th May CHESTER LUNCH CANAL CRUISE from £39.00 See Chester from a different angle. All food served on board will be freshly prepared by the Mill Hotel. We will travel along the canal while you enjoy a three course meal - all included in the price. Pick up in Barnsley Bus Station and Penistone. This trip is fully booked but sadly may be cancelled due to coronavirus.
Sunday 7th/ Monday 8th June, BLISTS HILL and SHREWSBURY, DBB, Enjoy a visit to the historic Victorian town and meet the "townsfolk". We will also visit the town of Shrewsbury with time to explore. Pick up in Penistone and Barnsley Bus Station. This trip will be rescheduled for next year.
