Poetry (Barnsley voices)
Barnsley Voice is a U3A group dedicated to the writing of original poetry. It is open to all: those with experience, those with none, and everyone in-between. There is no particular style expected, indeed it is a strength to have as wide a variety of poetic forms as possible; from light and humorous to complex, philosophical free verse, all are welcome.
Everyone gets the opportunity to read at least one of their poems, and this is followed by an open but supportive discussion with a view to improvement, if and when desirable. In the end, it is the poet that decides what to change and what to let alone. The hope is that an exchange of ideas and styles will lead to an improvement of everybody's work.
If you are a poet, or someone who is developing their poetry writing skills, then please do come along and share your love of this fine art with some like minded people!
The group is meeting at the Oaks Working Mens' Club on Doncaster Road, Ardsley, S71 5EF, every third Thursday of the month at 2 pm.
Coordinators: Michael Midgley, Geoff Pike
