Genealogy
There has been a Family History Group within Barnsley u3a for 12 years now.
In 2017 demand was such that two groups were formed, one meeting in the morning and one in the afternoon, both at Dodworth Library. These both continued to meet until we were hit by the Covid Pandemic, at which time the two coordinators who had run the groups between them for over 10 years, stood down to concentrate on other things.
The groups started meeting in person again in September 2020 post pandemic, but at this time, the venue was changed to Emmanuel Church.
Over the years the approach to research has progressed to a more structured one using Ancestry.co.uk and Find My Past. We also use the many supporting websites that are available to us to both add and confirm the detail we have recorded so a working knowledge of computers is essential, together with personal laptops.
From March 2022 the venue has changed to Dodworth Miners Welfare. The groups have been amalgamated and the name changed to Genealogy. The co-ordinators of the former morning group will run a session from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the co-ordinators of the afternoon session will run a group from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will give members flexibility to attend at either session or both if they should so desire.
Co-ordinators 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. : Hilary Newton and Margaret Williams
Co-ordinators 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. : Jackie Heppenstall and Neil Heppenstall
