Barnsley and District U3A

Special Notice

Following Government advice Barnsley U3A has taken the decision to curtail its activities until further notice. It will be trying to keep in touch with members through its Facebook Group and will be supporting individual groups to create their own regular contact arrangements using electronic media such as WhatsApp and other individual and/or Group telephone conferencing arrangements.

Although Barnsley’s heritage is rooted in the industrial revolution and principally mining and glassmaking, there is very little left of such industries now. The pit heads have been taken down and the slag heaps turned back to pasture. Surrounded by ancient villages, historic parkland and bordering onto the Peak District, Barnsley has some excellent places to visit for those wanting to delve into history or get back to nature. Within the Town Hall itself there is a brand new Experience Barnsley Museum that gives a good insight into the area. Our members come from within the town itself plus the many outlying villages and our groups use facilities all over the borough.

The Groups Calendar currently detailing groups up to September 2020 will be updated once we can resume our meetings.

Until then, for all member events please see our Events page for a list of Zoom meetings available.
