Members of the group take turns at hosting meetings and this works well. As the group meets in members’ homes, at the moment they can take no more members.
They study a different poet or topic each month by researching poems, reading one or two each and then discussing points which arise. There are some lively discussions and nobody ever falls asleep!
They have very eclectic tastes and one month they might do William Shakespeare followed by Pam Ayres the next! (Her latest book contains a wonderful poem about Hotter shoes with which many can identify!) They have found it interesting to discover that even 19th century poets and earlier write very amusing verse. In February they are studying Norman Nicholson, a Lakeland poet, and in March Pablo Neruda, a Chilean poet who has been described as” The most prolific of 20th century Latin America poets.” Both of these are new to most of the group.
