006 June - successes and problems
We had an interesting meeting on Friday – here are some of the problems we covered which may be of interest to some of you who were not able to come –
Ancestry - the 1939 register – links to this have come up on trees, but if you just want to search go to ‘Home’ then in Record Collections click on ‘Card Catalogue’, then search in the box for ‘1939 register’.
Find my Past - 1920 -1924 electoral rolls – click on search, then ‘A-Z of World Records, England – there is limited coverage but you can find out by starting to type the name of the place – Chelmsford is there!
George Henry Osben was in 1871 and 1891 censuses, but not found in 1881 – Lesley has come back and has found him and more about him!
Aime Redmond Herring – Brenda was concerned as the mother’s name was given as Cons which she thought was strange – in fact, Henry John Herring married Lillie Gertrude A H Cons [registered Pancras , September 1906].
Ancestry and DNA – Jan’s first match was someone who didn’t really want to know, but the next matches confirmed links she had already found. She advised to wait until renewal time as there may be special offers.
East India Company – Find my Past has records – ‘East India Register and Army List’ and ‘British Office India Collection’.
