Mah Jong
The Mah Jong group meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 2.00pm in the White Horse Pub, Great Baddow (go up the stairs at the back of the pub). The coordinator is Martine Compton (randmhutton@talktalk.net or 01245 697051).
There are currently 20 members in the group and the game is played in tables of 3 or 4 players. The rules can be a little complicated but one can play an enjoyable game even with only a basic knowledge.
Please note that it is nothing like the game you can find online!
If you enjoy card or board games, then Mahjong is for you - similar to Rummy, it is played with tiles with Chinese symbols instead of cards. In order to go out you need to collect 4 sets of 3 tiles and a pair, which you do by collecting and discarding tiles from a wall. Simple! 'Special Hands' are more challenging but great fun to try to achieve.
You don’t need to have your own set, as the group has a sufficient number of them to accommodate everyone. We are a very friendly group. So don’t hesitate to come, even if only as an observer to start with.
