Baddow & Galleywood

August 2020 Speaker

Once again due to Covid restrictions this meeting was organised as a Zoom meeting by our Chairman Maurice liaising with our Speaker Chris Branch who set up his Forte Physical Health Company about 5 years ago. He has 4 other people working with him who are individually qualified in Osteopathy, Massage Therapy and Nutrition.

Chris decided to educate us initially on The History of Human Movement which I think we all found very fascinating. He started with

1. Radial Plane movement which is how Jellyfish move, by shrinking and expanding.
2. Millions of years later Fish and Reptiles evolved and they could contract and expand sideways. This was called Frontal Plane motion.
3. forward many more years Quadrupeds, Horses and Dogs appeared which had spines and hips so they could move vertically and horizontally. This is called Sagittal Plane motion. These animals have more brain power and can use both sides of the brain at the same time. As they are heavier they also have the effect of gravity issues to contend with in their movement.
4. Moving on again through many years Apes and Monkeys appeared who could swing through trees and twist their bodies to do Contralateral Rotation which needed even more brain power.

All this historical evidence made Chris aware that we can improve Brain Power by practising Physical Movement. As we get older our joints suffer from wear and tear and possibly lack of exercise. Diet also plays a big part in our health and these are the key issues where Chris and his team are available to help. Chris has produced a video which can be accessed from his website www.fortephysicalhealth.co.uk or for more information e-mail info@fortephysicalhealth.co.uk stating that you are a Baddow & Galleywood U3A member for a discount on your first appointment.

About 40 members managed to access the Zoom presentation which was very interesting, so our thanks go to Chris for his interesting talk.
