2018 - what we did that year!
We had another good year in 2018!
We were pleased to welcome back Mike Brown who brought along a lot of childhood memorabilia from the years of WW2 and gave us a wonderful talk; and Graeme Cooper with a talk about the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. We also met Gerry' Baxter, the Pearly King of Streatham, with his talk on ‘The Origins and Traditions of the Pearly Kings and Queens of London’. We found a new speaker - Kate J. Cole, a local historian who lives in Maldon, who told the story of the Great War illustrated with postcards from her collection.
Linda gave a presentation about last year’s visit to the National Memorial Arboretum and Clive showed us how to create a website.
We had a visit to the Museum of London to ‘discover London through history’. This was a new experience for many of our members.
We had some excellent ‘successes and problems' sessions and three of our members who hadn’t done much recently plan to get back to their research – such enthusiasm! We have a wealth of experience in the group with people who can make suggestions to solve problems
