Book Group Facilitator: Catherine Cowie
STOP PRESS We've moved ONLINE, 2nd Tuesday of each month, 2 - 4pm
The book group meets monthly, and for the next few months meetings will be by 'Zoom' conference call. This is a new departure for us to take account of the present instruction to physically distance from each other (we are determined not to be socially distant!). If you've not tried video conferencing before and/or are a bit wary of giving it a go, I hope you'll be assured that all you need is access to an internet enabled device (personal computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone) and to click a link you'll be sent by email.
We are a small and friendly band, and you'd be very welcome to join us, even if it's a one-off visit to come and meet us, or because you've noticed we will be discussing a book that interests you. Our activities have often extended beyond the expected discussion of a monthly book choice. We look forward to again being able to meet for meals out, to enjoying poetry discussion afternoons, and to visiting Book Festivals. We are also open to fresh ideas and fresh ways to enhance our pleasure in books and literature, even in these days of physical distancing; lately literature-related BBC broadcasts and National Theatre performances available to view online have provided rich material to share and discuss.
Book Group News:
The books coming up for discussion are: in September, 'Diary of an Ordinary Woman' by Margaret Forster, a journey through the 20th Century recorded in the (fictional) diary of one woman whose life spanned its epic times; in October, Silence by Japanese author Shusaku Endo the story of a European missionary sent to the closed world of 17th Century Japan; and in November, 'Becoming,' the acclaimed autobiography of former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama.
If you are interested in joining us, please do get in touch, and I'll get back to you when I can (click the blue and white envelope 'link' button on this page).
