Book Group

Book Group Facilitator: Catherine Cowie

Meetings: members' homes, 2nd Tuesday of each month, 2-4pm

The book group presently gets together monthly, usually meeting at members' homes. We are a small and friendly band, and you'd be very welcome to join us, even if it's only a one-off visit to meet us, or perhaps because you've noticed we'll be discussing a book that interests you. Our activities have often extended beyond the expected discussions of a monthly book choice. In the past year we've met for meals out, enjoyed a poetry discussion afternoon, and have arranged visits to both Boswell and Wigtown Book Festivals. And we're always open to fresh ideas to enhance our enjoyment of the books we read.

Don't let worry about hosting meetings put you off - hosting is purely voluntary. And if you need a lift to get to a meeting, that can be arranged between us too.

Book Group News:
The October read is Clare Francis's "Homeland". It's set in 1946 and on the eve of the harshest winter for a hundred years, and servicemen are pouring home from the war to a Britain beset by stringent shortages and a desperate housing crisis. Anxieties are heightened by the unexpected arrival of the soldiers of the Second Polish Corps, whose refusal to go back to Poland is regarded with impatience and suspicion.

If you are interested in coming along, please do get in touch before then (click the blue and white envelope 'link' button on this page), and I'll get back to you when I can.

Hope to see you there,

Catherine
