A Welcome to the Website from the Chair
Welcome to our website and the world of Anlaby, Willerby and Kirk Ella (‘AWAKE’) u3a! Established in July 2011, our group has proved extremely popular with retired members of our community and it has been great to see its rapid development since its formation. AWAKE u3a owes this success, entirely, to the enthusiasm, hard work and commitment of all its members. It is an organisation run by its members for its members, and by pooling and sharing member’s talents, abilities and time, we have been able to create an excellent resource for retired people in our particular corner of East Yorkshire.
At present, we run around 50 interest groups covering a wide and varied range of subjects and you will find full details of these elsewhere on our website. All our groups hold at least one meeting each month and many meet more often. Smaller groups meet in members’ homes and larger groups in rented rooms and halls around our area. Membership of AWAKE u3a provides access to all these GROUPS.
We hold a monthly meeting with a guest speaker presenting a topic of general interest and all members are encouraged to attend. As a member, you will also receive a copy of our bi-monthly newsletter, AWAKEN, which contains all the latest news and updates about our u3a. In addition, Third Age Trust, a national publication containing news about u3as all over the United Kingdom is distributed to all our members five times a year.
AWAKE u3a is one of over 850 u3as across the United Kingdom with nearly 300,000 individual members. By joining AWAKE u3a you will become a member of a growing, dynamic, outward-looking organisation which has a positive and creative approach to life after full time work.
