Birdwatching
Meeting Details:
Location: Field trips to birdwatching sites
Frequency: Monthly
Day of Week: 3rd Monday in the month
Time: typically, 0900-1300
Details of Group Activities: We are a mixed ability group of 15 enthusiasts ranging from expert to novice birdwatchers. We have a varied programme with a different site visited each month including local nature reserves, RSPB reserves and WWT wetlands centres.
Reports recent Events: In September five of us visited Laleham Bird Ringing centre to observe experts at work, and our monthly field trip was to Canon’s Lane, Burgh Heath. Our October outing was to the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust’s London Wetland Centre at Barnes where we saw more than 30 species in the wild including many water birds, snipe and a stonechat.
We are a friendly group with a wide range of birdwatching expertise from near novice to expert. We visit Birdwatching sites on the third Monday of each month. These include Local Nature Reserves, RSPB Reserves and WWT Reserves up to 1.5 hours drive from Ashtead. Once a year, in normal times, we go further afield with one or two nights away, for example to visit reserves in Norfolk, Suffolk or Dorset.
Unfortunately, we have to limit membership numbers as we want to be sure we can all fit within a typical birdwatching hide. We are full at the moment but let me know if you are interested and I will put you on our ‘standby’ list - you may be able to join occasional outings when there is space available and join fully if full members leave.
