Ashingdon & Rochford

About us

Welcome to the website of the Ashingdon & Rochford u3a (Registered Charity no. 1180576) in Essex

The University of the Third Age (u3a) was founded in 1982. It’s a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment and provides educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. For further general information click on the U3A button on the menu above.

The Ashingdon & Rochford U3A welcomed its first members on 4th April 2013, and our numbers have risen steadily since then.

Membership: There is no lower age limit, as long as you are in the period of your life referred to as the Third Age. This follows the first age of childhood dependence and the second age of full time employment and/or parental responsibility. All those living in Ashingdon, Rochford and the immediate surroundings are eligible to join.

Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March. The current membership fee of £15 is minimal and covers administration costs including an affiliation fee to the Third Age Trust of £4. It entitles members to enjoy group activities; the monthly meeting with guest speaker; receive an in-house newsletter; a u3a magazine “u3a Matters” five times a year from the National Office and a “Sources Magazine”.

Social outings, Study Days, Events, Holidays etc. will incur additional costs.

Doors open at 1.15pm and the meeting opens at 1.45pm. We usually start with a guest speaker, followed by a business session and refreshments – tea and biscuits – and the opportunity to mix and chat. Non members are welcome to join us at our meetings. Non members will be charged a guest fee of £3 per visit with a maximum of three visits per year per guest.

If you would like to join us at this friendly u3a please use the Contact page. It will help our Membership Secretary considerably if you could include a telephone number and your full postal address as well as your email address.
