Events

We arrange coffee mornings on the 4th Wednesday of most months at Repton Connect Community Centre, Repton Avenue, Ashford, Kent TN23 3RX the to which all members are invited.

Please note contrary to previous advice, that anyone parking over two hours in the Waitrose car park is liable to a fine.

Individuals who are not members of Ashford, Wye & District U3A, who wish to attend coffee mornings as visitors should first consult the Visitors Policy.

These meetings give an opportunity to meet members attending a variety of courses and to exchange ideas and experiences.

At our monthly coffee mornings we provide a collection box should members wish to support local charities . For the remainder of 2019 these are:

  • Wyvern School for Handicapped Children
  • Porchlight for Homeless and Vulnerable People
  • Guide Dogs for the Blind.

As well as events organised by our own U3A, this page also includes events in the South East organised by the national organisation, The Third Age Trust. This page also features some non-U3A events which the Committee wish to advertise, such as events involving many U3A members, or supporting particular good causes. These events are categorised as 'Other'.

When booking trips, please remember to provide a SINGLE CHEQUE for each trip you wish to book, not forgetting to put the NAME OF THE TRIP on the back of the cheque.

Mon Apr 6thOutingThe Royal Opera House, Backstage Tour

We will arrive at approximately 10.30am in time for coffee and then some free time in Covent Garden for a wander and lunch before returning to the Royal Opera House for our tour, which commences at 2.30pm. The tour will last for 1 hour and 15 mins and will include an introduction to the colourful history of the theatre, an insight into redevelopments of the ROH and a look at aspects of current productions. As the ROH is a fully working theatre, each tour is unique and may include opportunities to see the Royal Ballet in class or the magnificent backstage technology in operation.

Although the route is fully accessible to wheelchair users there are some lengthy corridors and stairs may need to be used.

Cost for the day is £35.00 tbc

The coach will pick up from Wye Church at 8am and Ashford Rugby Club at 8.15am. We will leave London at 4.15pm.

Arundel Castle is situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex and was built at the end of the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel.

We will have Gold Ticket access, which means we are able to visit everything bar the bedrooms. We will be able to wander around at our leisure and there are guides in each room to answer questions. The gardens are a delight whether you are enjoying the tranquillity of the Rose Garden or the quirky design of the Stumpery. You can also explore the shops, galleries and streets of historic Arundel town which is only 500m from the Castle’s gate and re-enter on your ticket as many times during the day as you like.

The Coffee Shop in the Old Kitchen serves hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes and scones etc. while the licensed restaurant in the Castle Servants’ Hall serves hearty lunches and light meals.
