Current Affairs
The (very) current affair we talked about at our May meeting was the rôle of the monarch. Would it not make more sense to have a head of state who was chosen on merit rather than by accident of birth? In spite of (what I thought was) a well-researched and persuasively presented case for the UK to have an elected president, my efforts failed dismally. My recommendation was defeated by 12 votes to 2. But we had a lot of fun as we argued.
Change of date for our next meeting! This will be on the THIRD Thursday, 16th June, at Mayfield Memorial Hall at 10am for a 10.15 start.
Jackie Revill has been looking closely at AFGHANISTAN, a hugely important and worrying subject that has slipped out of the headlines. Jackie will present her findings and bring us up to date about the Taliban’s latest rules for women.
