Ashbourne & District

Current Affairs

Leader: David Holt

Please note: we have outgrown Mayfield Church Rooms and have moved to larger premises.

We meet at 10am for coffee and a 10.30 start on the second Thursday of each month at Mayfield Memorial Hall DE6 2HW. (From the A52 Ashbourne to Stoke road, turn left onto the B5032 and take the next left into Coneygree Lane. Look out for a sign in the field hedge on the LEFT pointing across the road to the entrance to Mayfield Memorial Hall on the RIGHT.) There is ample parking.

The objective is to have an informed discussion on a topic that is of current interest, so that we can learn from an exchange of views. So far we have found this both informative and enjoyable. A volunteer prepares a subject and presents it for about 15 to 20 minutes before a general discussion.

Examples of subjects recently discussed include: artificial intelligence, antisemitism, immigration, trade wars.

Our average attendance has risen to 20. New faces, challenging arguments, unconventional opinions - all these are welcome.

Dates for your Diary
Thu Jul 11th The second Thursday in July, 10 o'clock for 10.30 start, we shall have a guest speaker, a specialist in his subject which is TOWN PLANNING. Ashbourne is changing before our very eyes and will soon be quite a different place. ALBERT GOLDING will explain all. But whether he will put our minds at rest or give us reason to worry remains to be seen.
