The meetings of this group are cancelled until further notice. We can, however, continue to write and share our work via email. If this appeals to you, please let me know by clicking on the blue envelope, and I will include you in the mailings.

A recent theme was Escape.
Here is Di Deighton’s poem:

There are animals in cages, who throughout the ages, are dreaming of escape.

There are prisoners behind bars, who bearing many scars, are dreaming of escape.

There are workers in occupations, suffering life-long frustrations, dreaming of escape.

There are couples in a marriage, who would willingly cause carnage in order to escape.

There are artists whose genius is tied down by narrow-mindedness and meanness.
Let’s help them to escape.

There are sufferers whose pains have their lives locked up in chains, with no hope of escape.

Today, there are many nations, facing threat of extermination, we must help them to escape .

There are religious fanatics, tricked into faith by false prophets,is death their only escape?

There are sufferers from depression, locked in the ‘me, me’ generation, should try thinking of other people, to escape.

But escape for us is not the solution, merely an illusion, because, from YOURSELF,
there’s no escape.

But if you are happy with your lot, and make the best of what you’ve got, why would you even think of escape?

The Writing Group's meetings are usually members’ readings of their own contributions on a given theme, but there is no pressure. If you come simply to listen to the work of others, that’s fine. A few members refer to it as their ‘therapy group’ which is fine too! Why not come along and see if it’s the right group for you? All are welcome. Because our numbers have grown recently, we have extended the meeting time by an extra half-hour. We now meet every other Thursday at the Waterside Centre from 2 - 4pm. See the Events page for dates of next meetings.
