What does the group do? No prior knowledge of Pilates is assumed - this is a multilevel class. Pilates exercises have many variations and will suit all levels of fitness and knowledge. This is not aerobic exercise so you will not get out of breath - everything is performed with control and precision rather than speed. This class will be geared towards those of us who are more senior but everyone will be able to be challenged.
Group Leader Louise Jones
Level of expertise the group is aimed at: Please read the form (click the Form PARQ link on the right) which will give you an indication of conditions which may make it unsafe for you to do Pilates. I would advise anyone who has osteoporosis or has had a joint replacement in the last 6 months to consult their doctor before commencing.
Wear something comfortable - thin layers are a good idea - but not too baggy as it is important that I can check that you are performing the exercises correctly. Feet should be bare.
You will need a mat - a full length one will be best - will be called either Yoga or Pilates mat. These can be bought quite cheaply at supermarkets and sports shops but the thicker it is the more comfortable you will be.
Please also bring a small towel - useful for using as extra support or comfort rather than to mop up perspiration!
