Amateur Radio
WHAT DOES THE GROUP DO?:
Provides an opportunity to converse with other Arun East members and also other U3As. Assistance could be given on gaining a licence, buying equipment etc.
LEVEL OF EXPERTISE THE GROUP IS AIMED AT:
Amateur Radio users must hold a recognised Amateur Radio Licence issued by Ofcom.
The minimum level is a Foundation Licence exam pass usually obtained through a recognised club.
Help and guidance is available to anyone interested in taking up the hobby of amateur radio.
MEETINGS:
“Frequent QSOs and main QSO on Thursday evening at 1930 hrs,
Call channel 145.500FM
We also meet once a month for a chat and coffee.
VENUE
At a local café or other agreed venue depending on numbers attending.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Minimum requirement is a Transceiver radio working on the desired frequency within the Amateur radio frequency bands set out in the licence conditions.
COSTS:
Variable on what you can afford. There is second hand equipment available, usually through club sales. Also, some recognised radio equipment dealers.
