Film Group
Led by Margaret we meet monthly at 2pm near Petworth on the fourth Tuesday.
During 2018 we enjoyed two seasons of movies from Hollywood, and one season of French films.
First, Mary introduced the life and work of Billy Wilder, showing ‘The Apartment’, ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ and ‘Some like it Hot’. An incredible career, beginning as a German-only speaking crime reporter in Poland, to becoming a creative, colloquial writer and director of English language Oscar winning movies.
These were followed by Annette, who introduced Hitchcock, with ‘The Man who knew too much’, ‘The Birds’, ‘Vertigo’ and ‘Rear Window’, and no, we didn’t watch ‘Psycho’ this time!
From September we turned to some French films (foreign language items always have sub-titles). Margaret introduced Agnes Jaoui & Jean-Pierre Baccri in the roles of writer/director/actor. We watched ‘Le Gout des Autres’ and ‘Comme une Image’.
Finally there was Faces/Places 2017, that unique ‘documentary’ of 88 year old Agnes Varda (she of ‘60s New Wave fame)’s collaboration with 33year old street artist JR.
We would welcome new members. To contact Margaret please use the Contacts page to send a message, and please include your phone number.
