The 2011 holiday, on Jersey, having been such a success, a number of suggestions were received regarding a follow up to the sister Channel Island of Guernsey. So on 11 June twenty one-members flew from Manchester to spend a week at La Trelade hotel on the island.
In retrospect we had been spoiled by Bibby’s of Ingleton last year whose organisation could not be faulted. As they were not operating a trip to Guernsey at this time we had to find an alternative operator and whilst the hotel was really splendid the new company presented some organisational difficulties.
Arrangements on the island, however, went to plan and included a familiarisation trip around the Island, a day trip to St Peter Port and an excellent sea trip to spend the day on the small island of Sark with a unique two-hour horse and carriage ride through the countryside.
Aside from these organised events, group members were free to follow their own interests including walking and visiting the many tourist attractions. The weather was generally kind and the island was at its best – the abundant wild flowers being especially splendid.
Evenings were spent variously relaxing, playing bridge or rumikubs or watching the European Football Championships on the TV; some people even went for an evening stroll.
So a most enjoyable and successful holiday. We would certainly recommend the hotel; the staff and the owner were most helpful and the food and facilities (including a small ballroom) were first rate. We could not, however, recommend the travel Company as I was left to carry out most of the duties of a travel courier.
