Over the past 3 years, the Alnwick Herb Group have discussed over 30 individual herbs – their uses, scientific evidence of efficacy, pharmacology, identification, and history. The discussions have covered herbs for joint, respiratory and digestive health and problems; first aid herbs; herbs to support immunity and treat infections; herbs to promote and protect mental health; herbs used for pain management and to reduce inflammation. We have looked at herbs such as cannabis and turmeric in terms of the scientific evidence for their use, formats and dosages and their complementarity.
The group members determine what we discuss and we will continue to follow their interests, expanding into plants in our diets as nutrition as well as medicine.
The Alnwick group made a large contribution to a Regional Project titled ‘A 21st Century Northumbrian Herbal’. Results from this project can be found at 21st Century Northumbria Herbal - this is a direct link to the appropriate page on the Regional Website.
FREQUENCY AND VENUE
Classes are held at 2pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month, in the co-ordinator’s house which is in central Alnwick and close to a bus stop.
The Group is taking some time out, starting again on 4th October 2023.
