Walking - Longer Walks
WALKING GROUP
Meet 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesdays of each month
We normally do circular walks with a starting point no more than an hour away, although occasionally up to an hour and a half away, from Alnwick. We normally meet to start walking at 10:00am and walk until 2:30 – 3:30, covering distances of 6 to 10+ miles. We carry our own lunch and drinks. We take time to enjoy the scenery and any wildlife. In the summer we may go into the Cheviot Hills. In the winter we are more likely to walk on the coast or inland.
ALNWICK u3a WALKS PROGRAMME FOR 2024
Walking group members will be emailed walk information (risk assessment) for each walk a few days before it is due to take place.
If you are a regular walker and intend to come on a walk, please ring or text the walk leader the day before to confirm arrangements, as per details issued with the walk information.
If you are not a regular walker | please contact the Groups Co-ordinator. |
In 2024 we are offering the opportunity to walk the 66 mile long distance trail The Northumberland Coastal Path broken into 6 linear walks, each one on a normal walking day: February 14, March 27, May 8, June 12, September 11 and October 9, and marked in bold in the Programme. For these walks, members will be contacted in advance to confirm whether they intend to go, so that extra transport can be organised. There is no requirement to walk all the sections of the Coastal Path; you can walk individual sections.

* To protect UK birds - The Natural England Countryside Code states that: "the access rights that normally apply to open country and registered common land (known as 'open access' land) require dogs to be kept on a short lead between 1 March and 31 July, to help protect the ground nesting birds, and all year round near farm animals" …..also that "at the coast, there may also be some local restrictions to require dogs to be kept on a short lead during the bird breeding season, and to prevent disturbance to flocks of resting and feeding birds during other times of year".
