REAL ALE APPRECIATION
Meetings will generally be on the fourth Friday of the month but this is flexible. Times also vary depending on the pub in question’s opening times.
The meeting in May was at the Little Chester Ale House at Chester Green in Derby where 5 members sampled 4 different Ales.
It was an interesting meet as most members felt that there was not a lot of difference between the Ales tasted and the general feeling was they were lacking in body/flavour which is highlighted in the scores. The ales tasted and scores given were:- Harteshorns - Ignite – a pale ale at 3.9% ABV scored 21/50 Leather Britches - Mad Ruby - a dark ruby ale at 4.4% ABV scored 21.5/50 Burton Bridge - Golden Spike - a pale ale at 4.5% ABV scored 21/50 Craft Academy - Big Bang - a pale ale at 5.6% ABV scored 25/50 (corrected - 4 members) Harteshorns - Shakademus - a pale bitter at 5.4% ABV scored 6/10 (1 member)
As you will see, no beer scored highly and the beer liked best, by a small margin, was the Craft Academy - Big Bang. Whilst being described as a Keg/Craft ale it was dispensed on a faucet not a hand pump and was very!! fizzy.
