Follow the either of the top two links to Members' art on the right to see examples of the type of pictures the group produces.

When and where?

Friday's 10:00 a.m to 2:00 pm at the Community Centre, Abergele. (We close for summer recess for part of July, and the whole of August, but occasionally organise outdoor landscape painting sessions during this time).

What do we do?

We draw and paint in watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels. An enjoyable four hours of uninterrupted creative activity (and conversation!)

Who can join?

We welcome absolute beginners, improvers and proficient artists - anyone keen to draw, paint or model. As part of the University of the Third Age, you must be a paid up member of the U3A. (Joining a U3A is restricted to the over 50s). No other qualification is required.

How much does it cost?

We pay £1.50 each per session to cover the hire of the room. Each 'term' is approximately 13 weeks, and at present we pay weekly. You supply all of your own materials.

Would I be taught to paint?

It is not like a school or college class, which is why it is called a 'workshop'. Whilst there is no tutor as such, help and advice is always available and freely given by other more experienced members of the group. ( You only have to ask!)

Recently, the art group have exhibited some of their work in galleries around the area, in Colwyn Bay, Eglwysbach, Llandudno and Denbigh. Many of our artist have been successful in selling some of their work.

April 2015

Members of Art Group one booked a day trip to Bakewell in Derbyshire on the 13th April. Bakewell is a lovely town to walk around. It was market day and we combine this as we shopped in the many gift shops. After we went for lunch and later we spent the time walking along the river. The day went too quickly, it is always the same when you are enjoying yourselves.
After a short break for tea and coffee we made our way to the coach and headed back to Abergele. Many thanks to Craig y Don Travel company for our lovely day. Arthur Jones

April 2014

The U3A art group spent Thursday, 24th April with Craig y Don Travel on a trip to Llangollen. We spent some time exploring the sights and I heard plenty of cameras snapping, I’m not sure how much sketching was done? We then had tea or coffee and toasted tea cakes. Afterwards we boarded the coach to the wharf to meet up with our Narrowboat. The day was the best day of the week for good weather, better to be lucky than rich.

We came aboard the Narrowboat and started along the Thomas Telford Aqueduct to Froncysyllte. On the way we were given a delightful commentary on the history of the canal, the houses on the banks and the splendid landscape that we passed on this gentle form of transport. At the end of the journey we boarded our coach to go to our next destination which was Morton Garden Centre.

On arrival we had lunch, tea or coffee and the explored the nursery gardens for plants and such. After looking around the gift shop and Cotton Traders, we then started our journey home to Abergele. What a splendid day, many thanks to Craig y Don Travel for their services. Arthur Jones
