Uke3A meets weekly on Thursday morning from 10:00 until 12:30 in the Bistro(cafe area) of the Saint David Centre, Pensarn, Abergele.
Come along and talk to the group co ordinator, Colin Phillips.
The Abergele U3A's own ukulele group has grown from strength to strength over the past year since being reformed last September. We have a repertoire of over twenty songs, which offer a mix of popular and well-known songs, with another ten or more being currently practised to broaden our scope.
We have been invited to play at several functions over the past month or so with more invitations appearing each time we perform. We have played at the Dewi Sant Centre Open Day, at the Silver Anniversary of the Pensarn Coffee and Chat Club celebrations and we are due to perform for the Abergele Gardening Club mid-October.
Our numbers are currently at about twenty, with varying levels of skill, but everyone enjoys themselves and we have a very friendly and democratic outlook.
In April 2015, the Ukulele group entertained us for the afternoon; they made sure we joined in with the spirit of the afternoon by providing us with the lyrics to the songs they played. They quickly got over any nervousness they might have been feeling and underneath the looks of complete concentration they really looked like they were enjoying themselves.
We all know how well the Ukulele group can perform but it seems other things happen in the group!
Friends re-united by Beryl Greenhalgh.
Having joined the ukulele group, I was talking to one of the other ladies and after exchanging names we realised we had been friends at school in Liverpool. We hadn’t seen each other for approximately sixty years. It is amazing to think we both moved to Wales for this to happen.
So, thank you U3A for bringing us back together again.
