Opera Appreciation

The Group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 2.00 p.m. when we discuss composers, singers and view DVDs.

We decide on a theme, e.g. Verdi & Shakespeare, French composers, baritone leads etc., which we follow until our mood changes.

We are used to not liking the obviously evil characters, e.g. Scarpia & iago, but what about the dastardly men who persuade women to love them only to let them down. In April we shall start to look at "Cads - e.g. Pinkerton, Pollione, Maurizio, even Rodolfo etc."

We have been following several themes e.g. dying to beautiful music, mezzo-sopranos etc. so in May we shall have a "stand alone" programme looking at three of TITO GOBBI's most celebrated roles.
