Around the world

At our first meeting on Friday 21st October at 10.00 Gareth, who knows Haiti well, will lead us in knowing more about the fascinations of the relatively unknown country of Haiti.

He will give us a 45 minute presentation about Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere to be followed by a discussion on what makes a country become “fragile”? We will ask how a peace-loving welcome to Christopher Columbus could change to resisting an invasion from USA? We will explore how a voodoo loving doctor could turn into a vicious dictator and the effect of natural disasters on the stability of a government.

Towards the end of the session we will seek views of the group of how to proceed in following sessions.
Please come with your ideas and hopefully sessions will be structured so that all members can fully participate with their knowledge and experiences of working, living or visiting countries of our world.
