Walks are held on the second Saturday of each month, from September to June, and we usually meet at 10am. Most walks are on fairly level ground and of 4-7 miles in length, but a few may be more testing. Instead of having a single group leader, individual members volunteer to lead walks of their own choosing. New members are welcome to join us on our monthly walks.
Each session's walks are listed below, emailed to group members, and also intimated at the U3A monthly meetings. Full details of each month's walk are added a couple of weeks ahead of the walk date.
14 September - a circular walk at Mains of Haddo, a distance of 5-6 miles.
12 October - linear walk from Inverbervie to Johnshaven, c5 miles
9 November - circular walk from Milton of Crathes round the Ley Way in Crathes Castle grounds, c4.5 miles
14 December - a walk along the prom - please see below
11 January - ?
8 February - circular walk at Denmore, c4 miles
14 March - ?
11 April - circular walk - Dunnottar woods and coastal path to Stonehaven, c4 miles
9 May - ?
13 June - circular walk to Greyhope Bay and Girdleness, with Harbour Visitor Centre tour, c4 miles (this may be moved to an earlier date, depending on the progress of the harbour works)
Additional walks offered but not yet allocated to a specific month:
Linear walk from Dyce to Newmachar c4-5 miles
Ascent of Brimmond Hill from the west car park - c3 miles (mostly up and down, with little on the level)
14 December - as no-one has come forward with an offer to lead a walk this month, it has been suggested that we take a walk along the prom, a good level stretch on pavement (or on grass or sand if desired!).
Members are therefore invited to gather at the Fittie end of Aberdeen beach, by the toilets, at 10am on 14 December. We will walk the length of the prom, to the Donmouth, and then back, before proceding to coffee/brunch/lunch in one of the restaurants on the retail stretch. Christmas jumpers are an optional extra but please wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather.
Please note that walkers must be members of the U3A. Members walk at their own risk and will be asked to sign a disclaimer form before their first walk. A copy of the form is available as a link on this page.
