Welcome
Welcome to the website of Haverhill & District U3A.
The University of the Third Age is an independent, national institution with autonomous groups throughout the country. It aims to provide opportunities for those who are retired, semi-retired or no longer in regular employment to pursue and share skills, interests, knowledge and hobbies with each other. U3A activities offer a good excuse to get out of the house and meet people!
Click on the U3A logo above for a full explanation.
Don't let the word "University" put you off; we currently have 35 interest groups, and many of them are by no means academic. Click on the Groups button above to see the list of groups.
We have well attended monthly meetings, open to the whole membership, when we have guest speakers who give a variety of talks, often illustrated. Members meet for coffee or tea beforehand, browse the book exchange and meet old and new friends, making them pleasant social occasions. The monthly meetings take place on the last Tuesday of each month at the Haverhill Arts Centre, starting at 10.30 am; (the hall opens at 10 am for coffee etc). A free copy of the national U3A magazine is also available to all members at the meeting. Visitors are welcome to come to a monthly meeting, to see if they would be interested in joining.
At our monthly meetings we have a 'Meet & Greet' area where any new member, or those who come alone, may talk to some of the Committee and be introduced to others, given help with joining groups or helped with any aspect of U3A. Anyone may come and speak to a committee member if they have a question or any matter they need help with.
Haverhill U3A publishes a monthly newsletter which keeps our members informed of our activities and upcoming events (see link below). If you choose, you can receive the newsletter by e-mail.
Membership presently costs £10.00 a year per person (£5.00 for anyone joining after the AGM in March).
We look forward to welcoming you.
