Welcome to Burscough
What is u3a?
u3a is the university of the third age. Although we say University it's more a gathering of like minded people; there are no qualifications to be gained nor are there any needed. Anyone can get whatever they want out of being a member of u3a.
I have read and heard so many interpretations of u3a, all very wide ranging, but my own view is that no matter who you are, what you did, or what you do now, whatever your background, you yourself can always teach someone something, and age is no barrier. This is not necessarily the view of our own u3a.
Our u3a is just in its third year, and we have over 200 members. We started in September 2007; three of us got together and decided it was time Burscough had its own u3a. After about three months of planning and publicity, we held a public meeting and signed about fifty members on the first day, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Most of our meetings and group activities take place at the "Burscough Older Peoples Club", Lord Street, Burscough. We have a regular coffee afternoon every Friday, and new members are always welcome, So come along and see what we have to offer. If you have something to offer we'll be glad of that too. You can also pick up a copy of our latest Newsletter which is published quarterly - it contains practically all you need to know about our u3a branch.
Most importantly our Annual subscription remains at £10.00 for this year.
