Welcome
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is an organisation where older people share and expand their existing knowledge of many educational, creative and leisure activities. “University” refers to the original meaning of the word – a collective of people devoted to learning. There are no qualifications required to join, nor are any awarded. “The Third Age” is retirement following the second age of parental responsibility and employment and the first age of childhood dependence. Around a quarter of the UK’s population is currently in this category.
Lytham St. Anne’s, on the Fylde coast adjacent to the Ribble Estuary and the Irish Sea, was created by the amalgamation of the towns of Lytham and St. Anne’s on the Sea in the early 1920s. Whilst the village of Lidun (which became Lytham) is noted in the Doomsday book, St. Anne’s on the Sea was a purpose built Victorian seaside resort commonly known as “The Opal of the West”. Lytham St. Anne’s is now noted for its famous golf course, miles of sandy beaches and preserved heritage buildings. Although being located next to lively Blackpool, the atmosphere is peaceful, friendly and charming.
Founded in 1987, Lytham St. Anne’s U3A with over 600 members welcomes new members who would like to lead an interesting and active life after they are no longer in full-time employment.
We hold a monthly general meeting for members followed by a guest speaker on the second Friday of each month. These meetings are held at the United Reformed Church Hall on St. George’s Road, St. Anne’s (near to Ashton Gardens).
We have an extensive programme of events and meetings which are organised by over thirty different interest groups. Members are welcome to join these groups or to form new groups to suit their own interests.
Our current joining fee is £5 with a yearly membership subscription of £8.
