General Meetings, Outings & Other Events

General Meetings are normally held on the 1st Thursday of the month, in Knoyle Hall, Knoyle Road, Brighton. Doors open at 1.45pm, the meeting starts at 2.15pm to 3.45pm. There is an entry charge of £1.50 and free refreshments are served after the talk. Individual speakers and topics are listed below, as well as any alterations to date, time or venue. Knoyle Hall is wheelchair accessible.

Thu May 9th May General Meeting, our speaker will be Christopher Horlock, talking on “‘Lost Brighton". Chris will talk about his book “Lost Brighton” which charts the changing face of Brighton from the end of the Victorian era to the present day, recording its many famous lost landmarks. This fascinating photographic history of lost Brighton will delight those who live in the city or know it well.
Thu Jun 6th June General Meeting, our speaker will be Professor Richard Simcock, talking on “The Role of Charity in the NHS”. We are very fortunate to have Richard come and talk to us as he is Chief Medical Officer of Macmillan Cancer Support and Consultant Clinical Oncologist for University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
Thu Jul 4th July General Meeting, our speaker will be Howard Lawes, the national u3a Jazz Subject Adviser, with a talk on "The Jazz Age - the most expensive orgy in history?”.

2024 Summer School
The South East u3a Forum’s Summer School will take place from Monday 2nd to Thursday 5th September 2024 at Chichester University. Details of the wide range of courses on offer will be available from mid-March and booking commences in April to coincide with the April edition of the Third Age Matters magazine.

u3a Summer Festival 24
The first national u3a Summer Festival takes place in York from 18th to 20th July. Drawing on the experience, enthusiasm and talents of u3a members, Festival 24 will bring the u3a movement together to showcase the wide variety of activities - talks, sports events, musical entertainment and workshops - which will make this first u3a national festival something to remember.
