Welcome to Exmouth & District u3a

Hello and a warm welcome to Exmouth & District u3a, one of many u3as all over the UK. We were set up on 1st April 2012 and are now a well-established dynamic and friendly organisation. With about 1,000 members and an active committee we are one of the largest u3as in the South West. We are a registered charity (Charity number 1165438).

We are a member-led learning organisation for people who are no longer in full-time employment or who are able to participate in activities during the daytime, creating opportunities to:

• learn, laugh and get the most out of life
• meet up with friends and make new ones
• be part of a strong supportive community
• share ideas, knowledge, experience and enthusiasms in a friendly atmosphere
• develop the fun and passion we have for whatever interests us
• find the inspiration for new ideas, hobbies and experiences
• participate in a variety of social activities

We have a regular newsletter and you can read the current and previous editions by clicking or tapping the Newsletter button at the top. Also when necessary we issue bulletins to keep our members updated about latest developments. In addition, we have our own Facebook Group, our own YouTube channel which features over 50 of our own videos, and our own u3a Connect and Learn website for online learning.

Interest Groups

At the heart of our u3a, our interest groups reflect the wishes and interests of our members. Every interest group is managed by its members and meetings are very relaxed. The majority of our groups are self-led; it is our members who organise the meetings, and either teach each other, or help each other to learn.

With over 90 groups we cover many fields from academic subjects through to exercise and social activities. There is more information about them are in the GROUPS section - just click or tap on the GROUPS button above.

Membership

Members are welcome from Exmouth and its neighbourhood. We have a number of members from our District, including Aylesbeare, Budleigh Salterton, East Budleigh, Ebford, Lympstone, Topsham, Woodbury and Woodbury Salterton as well as Exmouth. Annual membership is £12 and covers all meetings, groups, our newsletters, u3a resources and the national magazine.

How to join

There is a link to our membership joining information sheet and to our membership application form at the side or the bottom of this page, and also in the CONTACT section - just click or tap on the CONTACT button above. Membership costs just £12 per year. If you wish to join, please contact the Membership Secretary on the CONTACT page via the CONTACT button above.

New Members

We offer small group meetings for our new members. We welcome suggestions from new members so that we can help them get to know our u3a and all that it has on offer. At our monthly meetings in Exmouth Pavilion we have a Link Up table in the café for new members; an informal session to get to know each other and find out what is on offer.

Meetings

Our monthly meetings are usually held on the second Thursday morning at 10:00 for a 10:30 start in Exmouth Pavilion. We have an interesting range of speakers including some of our own members and have speakers booked for the current and following year. Details are in the Events section - just click or tap on the EVENTS button above.

We also hold weekly ‘Coffee & Chat’ sessions online on Zoom at 10:15 for 10:30 to 11:30. The Zoom link for all our Thursday meetings is emailed to those members who are interested in this. Details are in the GROUPS section - just click or tap on the GROUPS button above, and then click or tap on 'Zoom Coffee & Chat' in the Groups table.

A recent innovation has been the introduction of our very successful Local Hub Groups for those members who wish to meet up for coffee or tea and a chat in their immediate local neighbourhood. Details of these are given in our newsletter. For details click or tap on the NEWSLETTER button above.

Social outings and events

We have an active Social Committee who arrange various trips and events throughout the year. There is more information about this on the Social Events section – just click or tap on the SOCIAL EVENTS button above.
