Welcome to Edinburgh u3a

Please note that there are groups who meet on-line. See On-Line Meetings page for details.

Edinburgh u3a (Eu3a) is a Scottish registered charity (SC020301) forming part of an International u3a movement founded in Europe in 1972. Edinburgh u3a is affiliated with the Third Age Trust.

u3a is a learning co-operative that enables members to share knowledge and learning. Our aim is that our members co-operate and collaborate in our third age to continue to learn and develop, and to have fun, as we also have a range of leisure activities.

Your Invitation to Join Us

Membership of a u3a is open to all who are in their “third age”. This is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life when full time employment has ceased and parenting responsibilities have diminished. There is no lower age limit for membership and people who are working part time may join.

To participate in the activities of any of our groups you first have to join Edinburgh u3a. The annual subscription is £10 for individual and £20 for 2 people sharing the same address, due at the beginning of each membership year in April. A member joining after 1st October pays a reduced joining fee of £5 for a single person and £10 for two people at the same address'. Your fees revert to the full amount from the following April.

If you join from February onwards, the full fee is payable, but your membership will start immediately and run for the next session. We do hope you will join us and play your part in our activities. New members are made very welcome. If you are interested in becoming a member, have a look at the Membership and How to Join Edinburgh u3a pages.

Further details about the u3a movement and the u3a in the UK can be found on the Third Age Trust website.

Groups & Other Learning

In Eu3a we have almost 180 activity groups. See the full range on the Groups page with additional information for members in the Group List Summary which is updated monthly. Additionally, check out the list of Proposed Groups within New/Proposed/Suggested Groups to see if there are any of these groups that may interest you. In addition to our own activities the Learning page has links to other u3as and a host of other external learning opportunities including distance learning possibilities.

Publications

Members are kept up to date with new groups and other information through the monthly Bulletin and twice a year Eu3a publishes the Clarion magazine. See Publications for further information and other publications.

Group leaders and members who help with the various administrative and operational aspects of u3a procedures will find information and forms on the Resources page. Here can also be found the AGM details and the Annual Accounts and Report.

Our Meetings

We have a Monthly Meeting (on the third Wednesday of the month) to which all members are invited. Meetings include short talks on a variety of interesting subjects. After the meeting members can engage in relaxed discussion, exchange ideas in a friendly atmosphere over refreshments, and sign up for activities and new groups. See the Events page for a listing of future talks and their dates.
