Welcome to Crosby and District U3A

Hello everyone,

We are a small U3a with around 100 members at present, and hold monthly meetings with a speaker in addition to various groups. Please do come and join us.

Forthcoming meetings will take place on the 2nd Monday of every month at St Helens Church, Crosby at 2pm (doors open 1.45pm) (apart from January and August). Please note that the April meeting falls on Easter Monday so will not take place.

Look forward to seeing you - Crosby U3A.

U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self help organisation of people no longer in full-time employment, providing education, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. U3A membership is not related to a specific age but to a period in one's life (the third age) after the second age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. Anybody in their third age can join U3A, this also includes people who may still be working leading up to retirement. All you need is interest and enthusiasm.

Crosby U3A, founded in 1996, includes members from the surrounding area, and is an established group of around 100 members. If you are interested in joining our U3A, why not come along to one of our monthly meetings, or telephone the Membership Secretary, Anne Handley (07732 948590) if you would like to find out more first. We are always looking for new friends to join us and perhaps add to our group activities.

Our regular meetings are held on the second Monday of each month in St. Helen's Church Hall, Alexandra Road, Crosby. There is no meeting in August and in January we have a New Year Lunch instead. Our AGM normally takes place at the July meeting. Members get together for a coffee and to hear what the various interest groups are doing. There is usually a guest speaker. The U3A approach to learning is - learning for pleasure.

Crosby U3A membership charges are usually £14.00 per year including tea, coffee and biscuits but this year we are reducing this to £10. Visitors are asked to pay a charge of £2.00 for attending a meeting. Cheque payment is preferred to cash as this makes the Treasurer's task very much easier; payable to "Crosby U3A". Visitors can attend up to 3 meetings before deciding whether or not to join.

We have a weekly Coffee and Chat event at the Crossroads Centre (by St. Luke's Church in Crosby) every Tuesday at 10:45am, unless this clashes with Christmas. Just a friendly get together where we chat about pretty much anything (not just U3A stuff). Just make yourself known or ask one of the Crossroads staff to point us out. Copies of our newsletter can normally be found on the notice board in Crossroads.
