Welcome to Wem & District U3A
Wem & District U3A was first formed in early 2013 with an interim committee to guide our group to full membership status. The first AGM was held in May 2014 to elect a full committee of active members. Although we are still newcomers compared to many, we have much to offer and always welcome people to our monthly meetings (detailed on the Events page) to see what we do and to find out more about our interest Groups.
We are part of the international movement of the U3A (or University of the Third Age), formed to bring together people no longer in full-time employment who want to continue to learn and share their knowledge and experience in the company of others. There is no upper or lower age limit to join and it requires no awards or qualifications – only a wish to learn for pleasure and to meet like-minded people. The U3A in the UK currently has over 300,000 members in over 1000 local U3As and is managed nationally by the Third Age Trust.
