About Us

University of the Third Age (U3A) is a welcoming and stimulating self-help organisation, operating at local, regional and national levels, for older people – or 'third-agers' – who are no longer in full-time employment and who retain an interest in life-long learning and social recreation in the company of like-minded friends. In 2016 the U3A movement signed up its 1000th local U3A.

By joining our group in Bolton you will become a member of an outward-looking organisation with a positive and creative approach to retirement.

Formed 25 years ago we are continully growing, not only in membership numbers, but also in the diversity of our interest groups. For details of our full range just click on GROUPS.

Our main monthly general meeting is on the fourth Friday of each month (except December), 2.00-4.00pm at St Andrew & St George United Reformed Church, St Georges Road, Bolton, BL1 2BS. We invite speakers to talk to us on a variety of subjects and members have the chance to meet each other over refreshments after the talks. Details on upcoming speakers are on the EVENTS page.

A monthly Newsletter is distributed to members with full details of our local activities together with any changes to the normal calendar. As a member of U3A, you will also automatically receive by post the national magazine "Third Age Matters", published five times a year.

Our Annual Membership fee is £20 which covers room hire, the cost of national membership, and general running costs including the monthly general meeting. This entitles members to attend any of our interest Groups in which space is available. A nominal additional payment at all meetings covers refreshments and incidental expenses.

Bolton U3A is a Registered Charity - Number 1140495
