Like all the other nine hundred (and growing fast) U3A branches in UK, Leigh Estuary is a self-resourced organisation where retired (and semi-retired) people can join together to enjoy the pursuit of a shared interest. From Antiques to Walking (we are still looking for a first ‘Z’ group – anyone for Zoology?) and from Line-Dancing to Meditation, we have over forty groups covering a range of activities.
Most of our groups meet at least monthly, mostly in Leigh Community Centre but some are very much ‘trip’ based, visiting churches, gardens and theatres.
We also hold a monthly meeting for all our membership, where we are entertained, usually by a guest speaker (and sometimes, unintentionally, by one of the committee trying to make announcements using a microphone).
Our U3A branch has just celebrated its first anniversary and, like our parent-organisation, we are growing fast. We hold regular ‘New Member’ meetings -- please click if you would like to find out how to join us.
We are always amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm and expertise that we have within our membership and always pleased when our members come forward with ideas for a new topic. Some of our groups are full and but we may be able to help you to start duplicate (or triplicate) group.
If you have any questions please contact us by email or phone and join the other 320,000 UK members presently enjoying life-enhancing opportunities with U3A..
We prefer to work using email but we try to be flexible (and we have a Computers group if you want to learn how to handle all that stuff).
We hope to hear from you soon.
