Welcome to the Wrekin U3A website
If you are looking at our web site then perhaps you are seriously thinking of joining, so let us tell you something about our organization.
The Wrekin U3A is part of the University of the Third Age, an organization for people who are no longer in full employment and who wish to continue the pleasure of learning and sharing knowledge with other like-minded folk. Our vision is to make lifelong learning, through the experience of U3A, a reality for all third agers in the Wrekin locality
Each U3A branch is autonomous and run by the voluntary efforts of its members. At present our membership is approximately 290 drawn from the rural towns and villages in and around the Telford and East Shropshire area.
Within the Wrekin U3A we have 42 Interest Groups catering for a wide range of interests. You enjoy reading, we have Reading Groups. Playing Scrabble appeals to you, we have a Scrabble Group; or maybe Latin is your particular interest, we have a Latin Group. Music and Singing, Art Appreciation, Country Dancing, Lunch on the 15th of each month and Cultural Visits are other examples of what is available to our membership.
Most of our 42 groups meet monthly, except the Bridge Group which meets weekly. The monthly timetable of group meetings is available by clicking here. Many groups meet in members' homes, but larger groups use local venues, which may incur a hire fee or parking charge.
In addition to our groups, we have a programme of general meetings for all members on the fourth Tuesday of each month (excluding December). These general meetings provide an opportunity for members to get together socially or to find out about different groups and their activities, learn about forthcoming events and listen to a speaker - and in the course of a year we have speakers that provide something of interest for everyone. We hold the general meetings at Shifnal Village Hall which offers space for all our members and full disabled access.
Still interested and want to know more? Just click on the Membership button, there you will find all the details about how to join and what it costs. If you want to see a complete list of all our groups just click on the Groups button. Other buttons will give you information about coming Events and the programme of general meetings. The Members’ page leads you deeper into the organisation and opportunities of our U3A. The Gallery button will give you some idea of what some of us look like and will also give you an idea of recent activities. And if you have any questions, use the Contact button
We hope this introduction has sparked your interest sufficiently that you will browse the rest of our web site and decide to join the Wrekin U3A. You will be made very welcome
