Market Drayton

Welcome

Market Drayton U3A welcomes you to our website. The aim of the site is to give easy and up to date information about the many group activities that are available.

u3a is a national organisation and it was founded in 1974 in Toulouse, France, by Professor Pierre Vellas. It now has over 430,000 people around the UK who are members of over 950 (and rising) individual branches. Membership is open to everyone so come and join us and share our knowledge and pass on yours. There is no qualifications required to join, and none are given. It exists solely to allow social contact with like-minded people who share a common interest. U3a branches and their groups, cover a broad range of topics, some recreational, some academic, all organised and achieved by members themselves, who are willing to share their knowledge with others. It offers learning opportunities online through events and workgroups as well.

The Market Drayton branch averages approximately 200 members, and has a wide array of special interest groups, which we are always happy to add to. New members are always very welcome. These groups meet regularly in various venues, which is sometimes in a member's home. The numbers in groups can vary from 4 or 5 up to the mid 40s.

We hold regular general meetings at the Festival Drayton Centre on the 3rd Thursday of the month, starting at 2:00 pm where anyone can attend and we have a guest speaker or an activity of some description, to entertain us. These meetings normally last about an hour and are usually well attended. Tea, coffee are supplied to finish with a donation if you are able. There is a public car park opposite the building. The meetings are also where you can chat with other members and generally keep in touch. Please note there are no meetings in July, August or December.

A fairly new development has been the introduction of our own page on Facebook called u3a Market Drayton. Just open Facebook and search for u3a Market Drayton.
There is also a link on this site under the menu option Facebook M/D.

The current membership fee is a one off payment of £16.00 a year, which entitles members to attend all the meetings and group activities.

We hope you enjoy being a member or visiting us.
