Welcome to Derby U3A

Welcome to Derby u3a

We are pleased that our membership increased to over 450 members in 2023 and look forward to welcoming many more new members in 2024. With new groups such as Real Ale, Motorcycling, Swimming, Classic Rock, Walks by Public Transport and Tuesday Trampers starting up, as well as the welcome return of the Gardens, Cinema and Theatre Groups, we now have 40 groups for interests of all sorts - everything from Archaeology to Singing! If you can't see your interest in any of our groups, do contact us to see if we can help you set one up.

Most of our groups have returned to face to face meetings after the lifting of Covid restrictions.
A few groups continue to hold Zoom meetings. Contact group organizers to find out what they are doing.

NEW! Starting February - Evening Pubs Group
The Evening Pubs group has been set up to compliment the Real Ale group. It meets from 7 to 9 pm in a Derby city centre pub on the fourth Tuesday of the month, starting in February 2024. We are a social group but there is no requirement to drink real ale or even alcoholic drinks! We are happy to escort people to the venues from the bus station for those who do not wish to walk alone and are unsure of the location. To contact the organisers, please visit the Evening Pubs Group page.

About Derby u3a
Derby u3a was founded in 1985. It is part of a worldwide organisation and is a self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operative for retired, semi-retired and about-to-retire people of any age to participate in learning, social and recreational activities. We welcome people of every race, gender, disability, religion or belief, and sexual orientation. It is run entirely by volunteers and is a registered charity.

Groups
We have a wide-ranging selection of interest groups. All our activities are led by unpaid volunteers who encourage all members to participate in the group. No qualifications are required, and none are given. Click Groups for more info.

Monthly meetings
Each month we hold a meeting of general interest with a visiting speaker. It is aimed at bringing members together and giving members a sense of fellowship in the U3A. We welcome non-members to attend one or two of these meetings ito get a feel of what the U3A has to offer before joining. Details can be found on the Events page.

Outings
We organise regular outings by coach throughout the spring, autumn and summer months. Due to their popularity, the dates and venues are only advertised to paid-up members. Recently we have visited Boscobel House, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Mining Museum, Renishaw Hall and Chester. A charge is made to cover coach hire and entrance fees, but costs are kept as low as possible

New members
New members are very welcome. You can join existing groups or talk to us about setting up a new one with people who share your interests. Click here to JOIN or contact the Membership Secretary for more information. New members also have the opportunity to find out more about what we offer at regular new member meetings.
