TUESDAY 16 APRIL 2024
ROMNEY MARSH TOUR BY COACH

We meet our expert Blue Badge guide at 10.30 at Dobies Garden Centre on M20 at Ashford, with time for a comfort break and, traffic permitting, time to buy a coffee.

We then drive out to explore the remote Romney Marsh area before we have a fish and chip lunch (with a hot drink) at the famous Pilot Inn at Dungeness. Marshmen established a wild reputation with smuggling and felonious deeds rife in a world where men drank beer a full century before the rest of the country and evacuated their sheep before their women during the war.

In the afternoon we drive along the coast through St. Marys Bay and Dr Syn`s Dymchurch to Hythe. There may be time to browse and perhaps buy a cup of tea before heading for home around 4.45pm- dropping off our guide on the way. Please note the early start time for this trip.

Depart Greenwood Park – 8.30am
Depart for home - 4.45pm
Cost £ 51
On sale at February meeting

Our afternoon starts with a 2-course lunch at The Waterside Inn in Ware.
After lunch we board our boat directly from the restaurant`s private garden
terrace. On the cruise we will pass the unique Ware Gazebo`s that
overhang the river, before journeying to Hertford along the picturesque
flood plains of the River Lee. We will pass Amwell Nature Reserve which
attracts ducks, gulls and waders. Seven species of warbler also breed
here, in addition to good populations of reed bunting, meadow pipit and
skylark. The cruise travels to Stansted Abbots before returning to Ware
Town Quay where our coach will be waiting to take us home.

PEACOCKS AUCTIONEERS, BEDFORD. 'AUCTION INSIGHT EVENING'
THURSDAY AUGUST 29th

The return of one of our favourites. This visit has proved very popular
in the past, with much laughter, just what we need.

On arrival we will be welcomed with a glass of wine or juice, and the
visit will begin with a short introduction to W & H Peacock and its
history. We will then be invited downstairs (there is a lift) to take
part in a light-hearted valuation competition. Another chance to see how good
you are (I'm absolute rubbish) before we go back upstairs for a light
supper and discussion.

Depart Greenwood Park 5.00pm
Depart for home approx 8.30pm
Cost £33
Tickets on sale: June/July meetings

NOTE
A few of you live very close to this site, so if you wish to drive yourself
there, that is possible. Tell me as you book.
