Caterham & District

Membership

Membership of Caterham u3a is open to anybody who has retired from full-time employment.

As well as Subject Groups on specific topics, we also have other general social events for all members, for example talks, coach trips, quiz nights and a festive lunch. I hope that there are Subject Groups which are of interest to you; we are of course always looking for volunteers to host new groups on any subject.

The current annual membership fee is £12. For some groups there may be an additional fee, for example when it is necessary to hire a hall. The U3A year runs from 1st Jan to the 31st December. If you join after 1st August the rate for the current year is reduced to £8, if joining after 1st October £6, and if after 1st December the full rate of £12 will be applied but membership will be valid until the end of the following year. If you are already a full member of another u3a in the UK you may pay the reduced Associate Member rate of £9 pa.

Part of your subscription is passed to the Third Age Trust (the national organisation for the UK) and includes the cost of publishing the nationwide u3a magazine, Third Age Matters, every quarter that is posted direct to members. We are also members of the Surrey u3a Network.

If you would like to join us, please download and print the Application Form, fill in your details and and send it to the address shown on the form. If you are unable to download the form you can send a message to me (please click on the link below my name at the bottom of this page) and I will pop a copy in the post. Please enclose a cheque payable to “Caterham and District U3A” for the relevant amount. To confirm your membership we will send you a Welcome Letter, together with details of the various Study Groups.

For existing members renewals - please see the attached document. "Introducing an enhancement to the Beacon Database."

We have introduced a new facility into the Beacon Database which enables you to view and update the details held about you on the system, it will also enable you to renew your membership by direct payment (if you have a PayPal account) or credit card.

To access this system, you need to create a u3a Beacon account (no charge is applied) and to do this you need to have your Membership Number, Forename, Surname, Post Code and e-mail address as stored on Beacon. The process is very simple and is set out in the Membership Renewals on Beacon document attached to this page. For any help required on this, please contact the Beacon Co-Ordinator Andrew Harper
