Welcome to Berwick-upon-Tweed u3a
About the u3a
The u3a (formerly the "university of the 3rd age") was set up 40 years ago for those who, whilst no longer in full time employment, still enjoy:
- learning: for its practical utility, for its own sake and for fun, and
- sharing their own skills and knowledge with others.
About Berwick-upon-Tweed u3a
We're celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2024. We have over 400 members participating in about 50 different interest groups ranging from Art Appreciation to Zentangle - our Groups page has full details. Membership costs £13pa. Please see our Membership page for how to join.
About Third Age Trust (TAT): u3a nationwide
The Third Age Trust (TAT) supports over 1000 local u3as across the UK who, between them, have more than 430,000 members.
As well as providing administrative & legal guidance, TAT also runs 'Interest Groups Online' (IGO), a digital branch of the u3a. Membership of IGO costs £12pa.
Open Meetings
Berwick u3a holds Open Meetings in St Aidan's Hall, Church St, Berwick on the 1st Monday of most months, from 10.30 til noon (tea/coffee available from 10am).
Newcomers are welcome to visit for one free 'taster' before deciding whether to become a member.
We've been fortunate in having had talks from a variety of fascinating speakers: from a local farmer to a retired nun and from a Guide Dog puppy walker to a Blood Bike rider.
We take a break during July & August &, occasionally, need to reschedule meetings for Bank Holidays etc.
Interest Group Meetings
Each group decides when, where and how often to meet. Details of subjects, venues & much, much more can be found here.
